Vodka & Caviar - OPI (Jelly Sammy)

Hi all!

Life is still crazy and busy and strange, but that's for another place, so instead let's just go straight to what's currently on my nails. I haven't done a jelly sandwich in a long time and it's just what I felt like doing recently…

OPI Vodka & Caviar, CrowsToes Maxxed Out, Jelly sandwich, swatch
This is OPI 'Vodka & Caviar' which was one of my earliest polishes (before I became crazy-polish-lady). I have always had a love for red polish, I think there are few things more wonderful than perfectly manicured red nails. I've been meaning to try this polish as a jelly sammy for a long time and I'm glad I finally did. I did 2 coats of 'Vodka & Caviar' followed by 1 coat of CrowsToes 'Maxxed Out' (aka my favourite glitter EVER!) and then 1 more coat of 'Vodka & Caviar'.

Both these polishes are easy to work with. 'Vodka & Caviar' is naturally a little sheer (being a jelly), but it builds really nicely and 3 coats was more than enough for full opacity (as seen on my ring and index fingers). 'Maxxed Out' is jam-packed with glitter so it is also easy to get the amount of coverage you want from it.

I love a jelly sandwich and I don't often think to do them. What are your favourite jelly sandwich combos?

Magical Mystery Tour - Enchanted Polish & Triple Black Diamond - CrowsToes (Studded)

I have something to show you today that is so long overdue. I wore this mani to our staff Christmas party last year in mid December. Trouble is my skin and nails were not particularly loving life, moisture-wise, so I have been putting off showing it. You may feel like you've seen this stud design somewhere before... I put a picture on Instagram when I first did it and since then a couple of lovely bloggers have used the stud design, so I felt maybe I should put the pictures up properly myself. So here we go... WARNING, 'Magical Mystery Tour' is amazing so there are a fair few photos!

'Magical Mystery Tour' is one of my favourite polishes. Enchanted Polish just does multichrome polishes so well. There are so many colours in this polish! These 3 photos show the most obvious shifts from blue to purple to pink to red.

Next on the list of shifts is the blackened side of this polish, seen in lower light. You can also see a bit more of the holo goodness in the darker areas too.

'Magical Mystery Tour' shifts to the most beautiful bright green/teal. It was really hard to capture and was even more green toned in real life. The index finger on the first of these photos shows it a little bit.

These last three photos show the more purple side of 'Magical Mystery Tour'. The top photo shows the gorgeous indigo colour that is a bit shy, but so pretty. Then the bright royal purple and finally the shift to pink.

Clearly I am IN LOVE with this polish! I could wear my Enchanted Polish multichromes every day of my life, but I would get nothing done because I spend the phole time staring at them trying to find new colours that I haven't seen before. I actually really liked this whole mani. On my pinky is a coat of CrowsToes 'Triple Black Diamond' and on my ring finger are studs purchased from Born Pretty Store. The formula of 'Magical Mystery Tour' was great too. I used 3 thin coats for full coverage, but I think some people would certainly get away with 2 coats.

Enchanted Polish is available from a few places including Llarowe and Harlow & Co. and CrowsToes is also available from Llarowe.

Jelly Sammie with Big Hair... Big Nails - OPI

Once again I have eaten a feast of food tonight and have finally gotten home (happy and full) to some internet, so... It's jelly sammie time again! This time with something a little brighter...

This jelly sandwich doesn't translate super well to these photo, but you can get the idea at least. For this look, I used 2 coats of China Glaze 'Surfin' For Boys', followed by a coat each of KB Shimmer 'Bejeweled' and CrowsToes 'Absolum - Your Potions Master'. I finished up with 2 coats of OPI 'Big Hair... Big Nails'.

This picture is a little closer to how insanely bright it was in real life.

Overall I really liked how this turned out. It was a bit different to what I've done before but at this time of the year it felt pretty perfect. I probably could have done with an extra coat of top coat for these photos, but as I've said before a little texture never bothers me. Everything in this mani was easy to apply formula wise. I used 2 coats of 'Big Hair... Big Nails' because I love the more suspended/floating look of the glitter in a jelly sandwich.

Christmas Mani #2 - with Cult Nails, a-england & CrowsToes

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I have been away for a bit because we went camping in the Hawkes Bay with my brother and his girlfriend. It was kind of nice to be away from all technology for a few days and just enjoy some nature,  good company and a good book. Anyway, my nails have been naked and unfortunately we had a few breakages. That's ok though, my nails have been growing fairly quickly lately.

So today I have my actual Christmas Day mani to show you...

Cult Nails Deal With It, a-england Perceval, CrowsToes Maxxed Out, Chi Chi Disco Diva
I already told you in my previous post about how much I LOVE a-england 'Perceval' so naturally I simply had to use it again. And with the perfect red, I had to use the perfect green and in my book, greens don't get much better than Cult Nails 'Deal With It'!!

On top of the water marbled finger is, of course, a layer of Chi Chi 'Disco Diva' and on my middle finger is a coat of CrowsToes 'Maxxed Out'. Déjà vu anybody?

I am so much in love with the amazing golden shimmer in 'Deal With It' and the best part... It's really not shy. The golden shimmer is really quite visible in most lighting.

'Deal With It' had a really lovely formula and for this mani I used 3 thin coats. Again, I used 2 thin coats of 'Perceval' for my pinky finger. I am pretty happy with how this mani turned out and I think I am finally getting the hang of water marbling! Yay because I really love the effect of it.

Hope you are all having safe and happy New Year celebrations! I'm off for another roast dinner tonight! I think I'm going to burst if I keep eating like this!

Christmas #1 with a-england and CrowsToes

Merry Christmas everyone!!

I had such a nice Christmas Day yesterday. It was 29˚C in Wellington which is basically unheard of. Anyway, this is one of the Christmas manis I did before Christmas...

Perceval, a-england, Water marble, Chi Chi Disco Diva, CrowsToes Maxxed Out, Hell Hath No Fury
I loved wearing this mani. It felt so festive. a-england 'Perceval' is one of my most favourite polishes in my entire collection and I have been grabbing for it more and more lately. It seems such a perfect red for Christmas.

Perceval, a-england, Water marble, Chi Chi Disco Diva, CrowsToes Maxxed Out, Hell Hath No Fury
For the water marbling on my index and middle fingers, I used OPI 'My Boyfriend Scales Walls' and 'Perceval' with a coat of Chi Chi 'Disco Diva' on top (apparently I can't do anything without it these days). On my ring finger is a coat of CrowsToes 'Maxxed Out' (BEST CHRISTMAS GLITTER EVAH!!) and on my pinky is a coat of CrowsToes 'Hell Hath No Fury'.

As far as formula goes, 'Perceval' is about as good as it gets. For this mani, I did use 2 coats, but I have many times in the past worn it as one coat. The glitters were both great as well. I love the glitter payoff you get with all CrowsToes polishes.

Hope you are all having a safe and happy Christmas/Boxing Day. I'm off to have another family feast tonight :D

Milky Ways - Lime Crime & Tangled Web - CrowsToes

I have lost all track of time!! It never takes me long to be completely lost as to what day it is when I'm not studying. Anyway, I keep forgetting what days to blog. Maybe I should get in the habit of scheduling posts so I don't miss them. Anyways... I have another Lime Crime and glitter combo to show you today. This time, 'Milky Ways' with 'Tangled Web' on top.

Milky Ways, Lime Crime, Tangled Web, Crows Toes, swatch
I love this polish. The slightly peachy tone makes it stand out from your usual nudey, cream polish. I really needed a bit of a palate cleanser as I had just removed a blue polish that stained worse than I've ever experienced before and 'Milky Ways'  was perfect for the job.

Milky Ways, Lime Crime, Tangled Web, Crows Toes, swatch
'Tangled Web' was one that I thought looked kind of interesting from CrowsToes halloween collection and I just bought on a whim. It has ended up being one of my favourite glitters. It's so simple but the mix of black and blue and the sizes just seem to work so well together. The blue really catches the light and sparkles like crazy. It's so eye-catching.

I used 3 thin coats of 'Milky Ways' but I think if you use thicker coats or if you're really careful with application you may be able to get it down to two coats. As with the other Lime Crime polishes, it dries really fast so you need to work fairly quickly. It also dries to a satiny finish, so top coat really makes it come alive. I used just one coat of 'Tangled Web' and it's application was really easy. There is a lot of glitter in there so you can control the coverage quite well.

I bought my Lime Crime polishes from Harlow & Co (don't forget that there's free shipping over $50USD) and I bought 'Tangled Web' from Llarowe (I have just checked and it is still available, though I don't think it will be for much longer being that it was a Halloween polish).

Bone Daddy - CrowsToes

I have a potential fail to show you today... I decided to try layering CrowsToes 'Bone Daddy' over something that wasn't grey. I love the look of that, but it's all I could find swatches of. Being that it's a Halloween polish and we were coming up to Halloween at the time, I thought I'd try something a little weird... So I ended up layering 'Bone Daddy' over China Glaze 'I'm With The Lifeguard'...

Bone Daddy, CrowsToes, I'm With the Lifeguard, China Glaze, swatch
I ended up with two fairly thick coats of 'Bone Daddy' over top and I wish I had left it at one. I kinda love how weird it is, but I'm still a little on the fence...

Bone Daddy, CrowsToes, I'm With the Lifeguard, China Glaze, swatch
I love the little blue flashing glitter in this polish! It's really eye-catching. I think this blue plays kind of well against the green... the grey jelly base of 'Bone Daddy' just nicely toned down 'I'm With The Lifeguard'.

So, as I said at the top, potential fail, but I somehow dig it... I had lots of comments about it, so it certainly made people notice haha. What do you think? I like playing with weird combo's with my glitters and pairing things that you might not think would suit. Sometimes it just works better than others ;)

I purchased Bone Daddy from Llarowe for $13USD and I've just seen that there's heaps of CrowsToes in stock (including 'Bone Daddy') right now!
