KBShimmer - Shade Shifter & Rollin' With The Chromies

Press Sample

Hi Hi!

Sorry for the absence. Long story short, I accidentally ate something I'm quite severely intolerant to and as such have spent the last few days in a very sorry state in bed. In fact I'm still in bed while I write this to try and rest up for work tonight.

Anyway, enough about that, today I have the last 2 multichromes that were recently released in the Winter 2013 collection by KBShimmer (see my previous 2 posts here and here). The last 2 that I am showing you are 'Shade Shifter' & 'Rollin' With The Chromies'.

'Shade Shifter' is gorgeous, it goes mainly between electric blue and purple, but every now and then a cranberry red colour appears in the mix and then at extreme angles a beautiful copper/gold comes out. As with the other 2 non-holo multichromes that I've shown you ('Pigment Of My Imagination' and 'Urban Camo') the shift is very strong and seems to look different every time I look at my nails.

This is the holo sister to 'Shade Shifter' aka 'Rollin' With The Chromies'. It has similar shifts to 'Shade Shifter' but the shifts are a little bit subtler and there is added holo goodness. I love this polish - are you surprised? Holo and multichrome… Mmmmmm.

The formula of these was simlar to the previous ones, both were very easy to apply. 'Rollin' With The Chromies' is shown with 3 coats, but you may or may not be able to get away with 2 if you use thicker coats. 'Shade Shifter' on the other hand is fairly sheer. I used 5 coats, but I would have left it at 4 coats if not for the lighting. If you use thicker coats, of course you could use less coats or on the other hand you could use 1 or 2 coats of this over black to get a similar result.

Urban Camo & Pretty In Punk - KBShimmer

Press Sample

HI!

I have 2 more KBShimmer multichromes to show you today that were just recently released as part of the Winter 2013 collection (you can see the first 2 here). This time is 'Urban Camo' and 'Pretty In Punk'. These are again the holo and non-holo versions of each other and they are GORGEOUS!

Urban Camo, KBShimmer, swatch

The shift in this polish is SO strong. These pictures show a pretty good summary of the shifts in 'Urban Camo'. Right from a greyed out green through bright green, aqua, blue, right through to bright purple. I love this polish.

Urban Camo, KBShimmer, swatch
Straight on, in regular light, 'Urban Camo' appears mostly green. Sometimes it has quite a silvery cast, but in brighter light it becomes the most vivid jewel green.

Pretty In Punk, KBShimmer, swatch

Pretty In Punk, KBShimmer, swatch
'Pretty In Punk' has basically got the same colour shifts as 'Urban Camo', but they tend to be just ever so slightly muted due to the holo. That is in no way a bad thing as the holo really brings this polish alive. As with 'Myth You Lots' the holo is scattered, but linear. It's not shy, but it is also not obnoxiously in your face. Beautiful.

Pretty In Punk, KBShimmer, swatch

Again, 'Pretty In Punk' mainly appears green. The bottom picture shows that greyed out green I mentioned with 'Urban Camo'. This polish also gets that gorgeous bright green, but this time with the added bonus of holo.

Both of these polishes applied easily. 'Urban Camo' is slightly sheer, but 3 coats gives full opacity (though as usual I have used an extra coat for the purpose of these photos). Depending on how thick you apply your coats, 'Pretty In Punk' could be opaque in 2-3 coats - I used 3 in these photos. One thing I will suggest is to wait a few minutes between coats when applying 'Urban Camo'. If I didn't let it dry enough, I got just a small amount of pulling or dragging, not too bad though.

Pigment Of My Imagination & Myth You Lots - KB Shimmer

Press Sample

Hi!!

I have the new KB Shimmer multichromes to show you and I thought I might do them in their pairs. In the new Winter 2013 collection, there is a non-holo and a holo version of each of these multichromes. Let me start by saying, the shift on all of these is so strong and so beautiful. I'm starting today with 'Pigment Of My Imagination' and 'Myth You Lots'. Fair warning - there are quite a few pictures in this post :)

'Pigment Of My Imagination'
Pigment of my Imagination, KB Shimmer, swatch
This is 'Pigment Of My Imagination'. There are so many colours that this polish shifts to. Let's have a look through them all.

Pigment of my Imagination, KB Shimmer, swatch

Most commonly, in normal lighting, 'Pigment Of My Imagination' shows as purple or blue. This electric blue comes out in slightly brighter light.

At certain angles, 'Pigment Of My Imagination' becomes a beautiful pink or even a cranberry, almost red colour. So rich and beautiful.

At extreme angles, the most intensely beautiful copper comes out. It appears like a gorgeous burnt orange in this photo, but in the first photo you can see how bright and golden it can appear. This is my favourite side of this polish, when that suddenly catches your eye as you move about.

'Myth You Lots'

This is 'Myth You Lots'. It has the same shifts as 'Pigment Of My Imagination', but with holo in it. I love this one so much. The holo is that linear, but a little scattered type that I love. It's quite present even in lower lights. The holo pigment lightens the polish up a little.

The formula of both of these was very easy to work with. Nice and thin, so spreads easily, doesn't pull and levels well. 'Pigment Of My Imagination' is a bit sheer, so I thought I may need to layer it over black. In the photos 2 of my fingers are 2 coats over black, and 2 of my fingers are 4 coats. I left it at 3 coats on my left hand and that was actually opaque. Basically, I don't think you need to layer them, as you can't actually tell the difference. 'Myth You Lots' is opaque at 2 thick-ish coats, but I have on 3 in these photos.

Polish Days: Get Back To Nature

It's time for February Polish Days. I love Polish Days as it makes me do something a bit different each month. Trouble is, I always seem to go a little overboard and can't seem to ever just have one idea and a nice simple mani. This month is no different :) The theme this month is all about getting back to nature. I decided to go with the weather theme that Hannah suggested, in particular the four seasons...

I decided to use different techniques on each finger. For Autumn, on my pinkie I tried the saran wrap technique for the first time. I quite like how that turned out actually. I have to say, the seasons aren't particularly appropriate for New Zealand, but oh well (e.g. it doesn't snow in Auckland and it is certainly not Easter in spring). I used quite a few different polishes so I will just list them below...

Autumn:
• Enchanted Polish 'Mean Mr Mustard'
• Takko Lacquer 'Va Va Voom'
• a-england 'Holy Grail'
• OPI 'My Boyfriend Scales Walls'

Winter:
• KB Shimmer 'Witch Way?'
• Stamping - Konad Special White and Bundle Monster plate BM-323
• "Glequins" from Born Pretty Store

Spring:
• Lime Crime 'Lavendairy', 'Once In a Blue Mousse', 'Pastelchio' & 'Crema De Limón'
• Chi Chi 'Disco Diva'

Summer:
• OPI 'No Room For The Blues'
• Studs from Born Pretty Store

Make sure you check out all the other lovely Polish Days manis...

Jelly Sammie with Big Hair... Big Nails - OPI

Once again I have eaten a feast of food tonight and have finally gotten home (happy and full) to some internet, so... It's jelly sammie time again! This time with something a little brighter...

Jelly sandwich, OPI Big Hair... Big Nails

Jelly sandwich, OPI Big Hair... Big Nails
This jelly sandwich doesn't translate super well to these photo, but you can get the idea at least. For this look, I used 2 coats of China Glaze 'Surfin' For Boys', followed by a coat each of KB Shimmer 'Bejeweled' and CrowsToes 'Absolum - Your Potions Master'. I finished up with 2 coats of OPI 'Big Hair... Big Nails'.

Jelly sandwich, OPI Big Hair... Big Nails
This picture is a little closer to how insanely bright it was in real life.

Overall I really liked how this turned out. It was a bit different to what I've done before but at this time of the year it felt pretty perfect. I probably could have done with an extra coat of top coat for these photos, but as I've said before a little texture never bothers me. Everything in this mani was easy to apply formula wise. I used 2 coats of 'Big Hair... Big Nails' because I love the more suspended/floating look of the glitter in a jelly sandwich.

Peaches ♥ Cream - Lime Crime & Bejeweled - KB Shimmer

Hello!

Hope everyone is having a happy Halloween? I am not so much... If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen that 15 mins before my biochem exam today, I had an ovarian cyst rupture. Not the best timing let me tell you! Luckily they could get some morphine into me at the doctors so I didn't have to go to hospital this time :) Anyway the moral of the story is, I am currently in bed in a fair amount of pain, so I might just keep this short and sweet.

I didn't do a Halloween mani, as I just haven't had time, but what I have to show you is orange at least. And never mind that, the polishes today are freaking GORGEOUS!!! On the bottom = Lime Crime 'Peaches ♥ Cream'... Also this is the debut of my nubs on the blog, since I gave 'em all the chop due to my middle finger peeling like no ones business. I am actually kinda loving this length. I'm gonna let them get a bit longer, but these are nice and easy to manage. What do you guys think?

'Peaches ♥ Cream' is a right little bugger to photograph. This is not quite colour correct, but it's about as close as I could get. It's a little bit whiter if that makes any sense. It reminds me of sherbet. There is top coat only on my top two fingers and you can see that it dries ever so slightly matte without top coat.

Then this happened. This is KB Shimmer 'Bejeweled'. I saw this on Chalkboard Nails and knew that I had to get it. Boy-oh-boy am I glad I did. It is delicious! The coppery gold glitters get a little lost in these pics, but I am LOVING this combo. These polishes were just sitting together on the table after they arrived and it was actually The Boy who said "you have to wear them together". Man does he have good taste or what?!

So formula-wise... Brilliant. Two fantastically opaque coats of 'Peaches ♥ Cream' with a thin coat of 'Bejeweled' on top.

I got these both from Harlow & Co. KB Shimmers are $9USD and Lime Crimes are $8.50USD or get the whole set of 7 for $49 (I may or may not have done this after trying this one!). AND I have just checked and all the Lime Crimes are currently in stock so GO GO GO! And the bonus of it all... Free shipping if you spend $50 :)

Deep Space - Candeo Colors

I have for you today a polish that I don't think I have discovered the full potential of just yet... 'Deep Space' by Candeo Colors is a polish that looks absolutely amazing in the bottle but just wasn't quite what I expected. It is gorgeous, but I think it could be even more so. I have one coat over black in these photos.

Deep Space, Candeo Colors, swatch
'Deep Space' has a most wonderful emerald green to blue shift in the shimmer and it's this that I feel can be even more amplified over a slightly different base... Haven't quite thought of what yet but I will have to have a little play.

Deep Space, Candeo Colors, swatch
'Deep Space' has little holo hexes as well as larger ones. The little ones were easy to get enough on the nails, but I didn't mix my bottle really before i used it, so the larger hexes were a bit more few and far between. I didn't mind though.

Deep Space, Candeo Colors, swatch
This polish would be perfect for galaxy nails and speaking of which, I have made a mission (after a little push from the lovely Ally over at Reach For The Polish) to try galaxy nails when life gets a little less hectic :)

So there you have it. Like I said, gorgeous polish, no doubt about it, but I think maybe I'll try it over a navy blue or something. Maybe over something like a-england 'Lady Of Shalott'...

I purchased 'Deep Space' from Candeo Colors for $9, but it can also be purchased from Llarowe for $11.

Edit: I have taken a new photo of 'Deep Space' that much better shows the duochrome shift. This is over black again. (How freaking long were my nails before!!)

Deep Space, Candeo Colors,swatch
MMMMmmmmm I love that bright blue shift that you can see on the index finger. This does look awesome with other colours too by the way. I need to eventually take some pics.

Oh Splat! - KB Shimmer

Hi!
I have a polish to show you that I know you've seen a bit of lately, but I thought I may as well put my two cents in! I have 'Oh Splat!' from KB Shimmer for you...

Oh Splat!, KB Shimmer, swatch
I freaking well love 'Oh Splat!' oh so much! I love a polish that is milky white with glitter in (think back to 'Expecto Patronum').

Oh Splat!, KB Shimmer, swatch
I'm not even going to try and name all the glitter colours, let's just say there's a whole lot of multi-coloured glitter in there. This is only two coats! It's so opaque which is amazing.

As I said, two coats of opaque goodness. Formula on this was surprisingly easy. It was pretty thick but as you only need two coats, it didn't bother me at all.

I bought 'Oh Splat!' from Harlow & Co. for $9 USD.
